Varroa Mite Test Kit

A varroa test kit that works for both standard methods: the alcohol wash, which kills the sample and gives the most reliable count, and the sugar shake, which lets most of the bees go back to the hive.

Either way, the number is the point. A mite load you can see on adult bees is already a serious one, so a count taken from a measured sample, around half a cup of bees off brood frames, is what tells you whether to treat now or wait.
